Caracteres castellanos especiales / Spanish alternate characters

        Estas instrucciones son para introducir caracteres del castellano, como por ejemplo vocales con acento, en teclados que no dispongan de ellos. Son válidas para usuarios de Windows solamente. Funcionan con la mayoría de los tipos de letra, aunque puede ser que alguna no lleve estos caracteres.

        These instructions are for entering Spanish language characters with a keyboard that does not have them. Good for Windows users only. They work with most fonts, except for the ones that do not include these characters.

1. Manera fácil de escribir caracteres de lengua castellana / Easy way to enter Spanish language characters

        Esta es la mejor opción si vas a necesitar caracteres "raros" muy a menudo. En el Panel de Control (Control Panel) de la configuración de tu Windows, ve a Teclado ("Keyboard"). Añade un idioma internacional; en las computadoras de los EEUU tendrás US-International. Si no, quizá funcione otra opción internacional. Selecciona el nuevo idioma como tu teclado pre-determinado. Ahora ya puede escribir vocales acentuadas simplemente apretando la tecla de acento y luego la vocal en cuestión. Otros caracteres, también de otras lenguas, se introducen de manera similar; puede que necesites probar algunas combinaciones. Puede que necesites volver a arrancar tu computadora para que los ajustes funcionen.
        This is the recommended option if you'll be entering "funny" characters often. On the Control Panel of your Windows configuration, go to Keyboard. Add an international language; US computers have US-International. If not, another international setting may work.. Select the new language as you predetermined keyboard. Now you can enter accented vowels by typing first ' and the vowel key. Other characters, even for other languages, are entered in similar ways, you may need to experiment. You may need to re-start your computer for the changes to take place.

2. Introduce caracteres especiales con el Mapa de Caracteres / Use the Windows' Character Map to enter alternate characters

        Encontrarás el Mapa de Caracteres bajo Inicio/Programas/Accesorios/Herramientas del sistema. A veces Windows no lo instala por defecto, en cuyo caso deberás instalarlo en Inicio/Configuración/Panel de Control/Agregar o Quitar Programas, en la pestaña de Instalación de Windows en la zona de Herramientas de Sistemas. Con el Mapa de Caracteres abierto, simplemente elige el tipo de letra y busca el carácter que quieras. Selecciona y copia para pegarlo en cualquier documento.
        You will find the Character Map under Start/Programs/Accessories/System tools. Sometimes Windows does not install this useful little utility by default (here's a surprise. Microsoft-Where would you like to go today?-Well, i'd like to take my children to the park, but i just do not know how to enter this stupid character to finish with my report), in which case you will need to install it by going to Start/Setup/Control Panel/Add or Remove Software, then the Windows Installation tab and then on the System Tools area. Once you run the Character Map, simply select the font and character you need. Select and copy to paste into a document.
