• Frequency response templates

The illustrations below are templates for measuring frequency response. The first is useful for third octave band analysis (old school 1/3rd octave "RTA"), the second being useful for full resolution analysis. 25 and 50 dB ranges are provided on the left hand side (which corresponds to 1 or 2 dB per horizontal division). The illustrations have been re-scaled to fit on the screen; the originals (which can be seen by clicking on the image, though some browsers will resize it to fit the screen and show it somewhat blurry; if that is the case clicking on the image would normally in its original form) are high resolution. To download, just place your cursor on top of the image, right-click and select "Save image as".

A example of a filled template for the 1/3rd octave template can also be seen. Only filled down to 31 Hz, where response falls approximately 15 dB below the average response level. Avoid driving the system too hard with bands outside the system's main bandwidth.

Constant voltage systems (70V, 100V lines)

Constant voltage, high impedance or line transformer systems are often a somewhat confusing concept for professionals used to rock and roll. They are actually very simple to design, among other things because they are intended to be installed by electricians and the like, with little experience in sound systems. In this article we will try to clarify the simple concepts needed to understand this type of system.... Read more
