4" loudspeakers have become a new standard. It could be said that the 4" is the new 5", which used to be the limit of a loudspeaker considered worthy of professional use.

Italian manufacturer RCF has added a model of such dimension (COMPACT M 04) to the COMPACT M line it introduced last year.

The COMPACT M 04 is a multi-purpose 2-way, full-frequency range coaxial loudspeaker for a variety of applications. The separate HF unit uses a soft dome tweeter coupled to a waveguide.

The M 04 offers relatively high sensitivity for its size (89 dB SPL 1W/1m) reportedly thanks to the use of large magnets and high-fidelity sound quality.

Its compact and unobtrusive design allows its use in all types of architectural spaces. The included "U" bracket for wall mounting allows the M 04 to be used in wall or ceiling installations.

As with the rest of the series, the enclosure is made of plywood in black or white, with Euroblock (Phoenix) connection. The 16Ω impedance allows a high number of enclosures to be connected in parallel.

    Other features:
    • Power rating: 60 W AES
    • Nominal maximum SPL: 113 dB @1m
    • Frequency response (-10 dB): 90 - 20 000 Hz
    • Coverage angle: 120° × 120°.
    • Dimensions: 148x132x145 mm
